Angstrom Power receives award from SDTC
2005-06-22 - Angstrom Power of North Vancouver announced today that it has received an award from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) to demonstrate and test hydrogen fuel cell powered portable electronics devices in the Vancouver area.
“Angstrom wants to help the world think differently about fuel cells – to think beyond cars and buses and to be more creative about the great potential hydrogen fuel cells have in the hand-held portable market,” said Dr. Ake Almgren, CEO of Angstrom. “This is the perfect opportunity to show that Micro Hydrogen can work better and recharge faster than battery based devices for portable power. Micro Hydrogen technology has better operating characteristics, less maintenance and no emissions.”
Angstrom’s fuel cell-powered electronic devices will be used in remote field operations without access to the electricity grid by the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Airport Authority and the University of Victoria’s Institute for Integrated Energy Systems. Hydrogen for the demonstrations will be provided by BOC gas and HTEC in North Vancouver. These demonstration projects will also allow partners BOC and Powertech Labs to develop safety certifications for the technology, which will be the first Micro Hydrogen devices in the world to be fully safety certified.
The demonstration project has the potential for significant Greenhouse gas emission reduction by initially displacing gasoline generator systems currently used for support of remote field operations and eventually replacing the use of inefficient AC battery chargers with Micro Hydrogen powered devices. The SDTC project will be the first major deployment of portable fuel cell devices in Canada, and one of the first integrated end-to-end Micro Hydrogen demonstrations in the world.
